Senior Power Electronics Engineer

PCTI has a opening for an experienced, creative, innovative, technically sound Power Electronics Engineer to perform tasks related to design, development and testing of power electronic products for the military and commercial industries. This is an exceptional opportunity for a mid/senior level engineer to join a team of dedicated individuals committed to our mission of providing quality solutions and services to each of our customers. You will be the key personnel of the engineering team that designs and develops DC power supplies, inverters, frequency converters, battery chargers, gird tie inverters, EV fast chargers within the power niche of 3KW to 2MW at our facility in Butler, PA.

The primary responsibilities:

Collaborate with prospective customers in defining product specifications, Review technical specifications of quotations of DC Power Supplies, Inverters, Frequency Converters, Battery Chargers and DC-DC converters up to 2MW. Select best design topology based on the product specifications; Prepare BOM for quotation pricing; Design overall system and prepare detail engineering schematic drawing for production and wiring; Supervise embedded control engineer, testing engineer/technicians, production personnel, and drafting personnel; Select enclosures or supervise enclosure fabrication design; Select/design cooling systems for enclosures; Perform design calculation and specification of power magnetic components, selection of active and passive components to build the complete product, Research and development of new power electronics techniques, Develop new products.

Desired qualification/skills/experience:

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering with relevant course works in power electronics.
  • Minimum five-year experience in developing DC/DC converters, AC-DC rectifiers, single and 3-phase inverters, frequency converters.
  • Good understanding of SCR and IGBT technologies applicable to power supplies, battery chargers, inverters, or frequency converters is a must.
  • Good understanding of power conversion topologies for medium to high power converters is important.
  • Familiarity with multi-pulse rectifier topologies such as 12-pulse and 18-pulse for harmonic reduction.
  • Good understanding of working principles of transformers and magnetic components in general.
  • Broad working knowledge of electrical engineering system components including but not limited to circuit breakers, contactors, fuses, relays, MOVs, thermal management systems etc.
  • Experience with CAD applications such as MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, AutoCAD, progeCAD, PCB Design is a plus.
  • Familiarity with programming TI C2000 DSP, C, C++, PLC/HMI is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, technical and non- technical
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership and responsibility for the quality of his/her own work.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines.

Electrical Engineer

PCTI has an immediate opening for a qualified Electrical Engineer, you will be joining a team of dedicated individuals committed to our mission of providing quality solutions and services to each of our customers. The primary responsibilities for this role include:

  • Developing and designing electrical schematics, drawings, in computer-aided drafting
  • Assist with plan development throughout the life of a project (Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Documents)
  • Performs complex drafting, designing assignments with little to no supervision and reviews drawings for accuracy
  • Generate drawings for use in manufacturing
  • Follow internal design standards and electrical codes to design electrical layout
  • Collaborate with lead engineering and manufacturing staff to interpret designs, answer questions, and make changes as needed
  • Communicate effectively with outside vendors on material and service requirements for each project
  • Perform Electrical Drafter functions
  • Assist with research and development
  • Perform additional duties as requested

Job requirements/experience:

  • 2-3 years of power electronics experience in the development of bidirectional DC/DC converters, single and 3-phase medium to high power inverter – multi-level inverters for grid connected application
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (focus on Power Electronics is a plus)
  • Solid background and hands-on experience in the design and implementation of electrical drafting
  • Understanding and experience of communication protocols used in EV chargers is a plus
  • Good understanding of magnetics design – FEA simulation is a plus
  • 2-3 years of Industrial product development experience
  • Renewable Energy experience, including North American standards, a plus
  • Experience with CAD applications (i.e., AutoCAD Electrical, Proge CAD)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, technical and non- technical
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership and responsibility for the quality of their own work
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines

Purchasing Agent

Immediate opening for a purchasing agent. Position is responsible for purchasing, evaluating and negotiating materials from vendors. Candidate will work with engineers to source components, obtain pricing from a variety of sources and complete bills of material (BOMs). Candidate must be good with numbers, be able to multitask, be detail oriented, be a quick learner and be focused on negotiating cost reductions. Candidate must be proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook). Must be able to work well under pressure, prioritize tasks as they arise during the day, be able to understand directions with minimal explanation. Experience with Power Electronics a plus.
