PCTI has been very busy recently designing custom shorepower frequency converters for various international shorepower projects. What is a shore power frequency converter? A shorepower frequency converter is equipment that allows a ship to be powered by the port’s electrical grid, even though a ship may have a different operating voltage, which is typical for ships travelling internationally. PCTI's shore power frequency converters change the local grid power to match the input frequency and voltage of the foreign ship. PCTI has recently provided multiple shore power frequency converters, ranging from 30KVA to 350KVA, as part of a marina projects in St. Vincent and the Grenadines islands.

Why are Shorepower Frequency Converters Beneficial?
Using shorepower frequency converters save money by reducing the consumption of diesel fuel. It also reduces air pollution caused by running the engine unnecessarily while at port. Actually, many cities have anti-idling laws put into place specifically to reduce diesel fuel soot and pollution. To comply with these laws and reduce fuel costs, many ports are choosing shorepower solutions, such as PCTI’s frequency converters.
Another benefit of using shore power frequency converters is noise reduction. Using shorepower frequency converters is virtually noise-free, whereas idling and diesel generators are much noisier.

Other Applications for Frequency Converters?
Other frequency converter uses besides shorepower are ground support equipment for airports and powering foreign equipment. You might be surprised to know that many truck stops use a converter similar to PCTI’s shorepower frequency converters. Instead of a driver idling their engine at a truck stop to keep comfortable, they can plug into a converter to save money on fuel, keep the air clean, and avoid all of the loud noise. PCTI is a proud supplier of frequency converters, DC power supplies, inverters, and battery chargers worldwide.
